SC Selected as Top Rated Green College
Southwestern College has been selected by the U.S. Green Building Council and “The Princeton Review” as one of America’s top rated green colleges.
Southwestern will appear in the second annual “Guide to Green Colleges.” The guide profiles the nation’s most environmentally-responsible campuses.
Green Team Southwestern has done several sustainable events in the past year. They include:
• Recyclemania, a friendly competition and benchmarking tool for college and university recycling programs to promote waste reduction activities to their campus communities.
• Sweep Winfield, an event that sent numerous Southwestern College students throughout Winfield picking up trash and recyclables in order to help clean up the community.
• The Kansas Envirothon, an outdoor, environmental high school competition where students learn and are tested on soils, forestry, wildlife, aquatics and a current issue.
• Creation Care Day, a day for area youth to learn about caring for God’s creation, held on the SC campus.
“It is exciting that Southwestern College is being recognized for our Green efforts,” says Jason Speegle, director of Green Team Southwestern. “Being environmentally friendly has become such a priority for our administration, staff, and students. We are trying to become a model of sustainability.”
