I really like to work on cars - especially Volvo 240s - I have two and am looking for a third one. While they are not too glamorous in design - a nickname for them is a Swedish Brick - the mechanical part is really quite interesting. Plus, there are several groups that exchange information about them, so trying to get help is simply an e-mail away. During the summer months, I can be found with my kids on a boat looking to ski, tube, or wakeboard. While my action on the water is skiing or tubing, my 14-year old is trying to convince me that we need a tower on our boat so he can get some serious height and do wakeboarding tricks. We also have contests to determine who can stay on the tube the longest given water conditions or by playing 'king of the tube' as we skim along the water's surface. A former hobby, running provided hours of pleasure as I beat my feet on the pavement for more than 38,000 miles. Now, the beat is a brisk walk once or twice a day and weightlifting as many days a week as time affords among the typical activities associated with family, work, reading, and Bible study. Helping others learn is why I teach. Because learning is such a wonderful gift, I teach and work with others who teach and students who want to be teachers so we can determine the most effective ways to help others learn. |
