My name is Jean-Gabriel Jolivet. My students call me Dr. J.: it is more sociable, pleasant and relaxes the classroom to a more user-friendly atmosphere. I came to North America at the age of 20 with nothing more than 2 suitcases and a passion for education. After doing my law school in Canada, I enrolled at the University of Toledo to learn English. In 1999, I enrolled at Purdue University where I received my Ph.D. in Political Science. I always knew I wanted to teach. I have a passion for politics and respect those who have political awareness. I give 100% in the classroom and expect 100% from my students. I am continuously searching for new ways to improve teaching methods. I am fair, direct, forward, and yes, sometimes demanding. However, I feel that the potential for your education is my responsibility and I take it very seriously. I have traveled extensively over the past several years, both foreign and domestic, and those experiences have brought me different insights to the many different cultures and political challenges that lie in each locale. I had the opportunity to drive the entire length of Route 66 with my brother when he was visiting. This vacation was a great chance for us to re-bond as brothers and enjoy our time together as we were seeing a significant part of American nostalgia. The lighter side of me brings the Simpsons, I am a huge fan and avid collector of Simpsons' memorabilia. I have dedicated an entire room to them in my house. I have seen every episode several times and also have each season on DVD. Test my knowledge of Simpsons' trivia and try to stump me!!! I also enjoy animals, music, hiking, talking, and people in general. I enjoy & miss my family whom are all still in France, especially my niece and my nephews are a joy to be around. |
