About Me: |
|
I have a wife, Jill, and two boys, Brady and Donovan. I am a PK (Pastor's Kid). My father was an Assemblies of God pastor for 30 years. I am also an avid film buff. My favorite actor is Jimmy Stewart and my favorite director is Alfred Hitchcock, thus the centerpieces of my film collection are Stewart films (72 and counting!) and Hitchcock films (over 40). I also love baseball! Though I've never been a great player myself, it's the only sport I don't thoroughly embarrass myself playing. My wife, on the other hand, is the consummate jock, having played (and played well) virtually every sport available to her growing up. Her main sport, however, is softball, so we can occasionally be found tossing the old ball around or out hitting a few. In teaching, I try to foster a "community of scholars" approach wherein students see themselves as junior colleagues of the professor in the pursuit of academic inquiry, which I believe encourages excellence. This is extremely important in my discipline (systematic theology), for, as Karl Barth famously said, "whoever prays is a theologian," so we may as well be good ones. |
