Academic
and Honorary Societies
Southwestern has active chapters
in three national honor societies. Membership in these organizations
is in recognition of good scholarship and effective participation
in the respective fields. Beta Beta Beta is for biology majors.
Pi Kappa Delta is a national debate fraternity. Pi Gamma Mu is
an
international honor fraternity for students of social science.
Each year, those seniors who have benn academically
outstanding in college are honored by being named members of
the Order of the
Mound. Ten percent of the graduating class may be named. Transfer
students must complete at least 60 semester hours on campus in
order
to receive consideration.
The Masterbuilder Award is the highest honor students
can confer upon a senior. Selection is completed through a general
student
election prior to commencement.
Southwestern College also elects members to Who's
Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Selection
of
no more than
ten percent of the senior class is based upton total leadership,
including scholarship, campus activities, contribution to
college life, and future promise.
