Southwestern College Children's Choir Camp June 7-9, 1999
|
On Monday afternoon, June 7, nearly 100 musicians moved in to the dorms
at SC for the Southwestern College Children's Choir Camp. The group
included 61 children, ages eight to 12.
|
Campers and sponsors from 18 choirs in 15 Kansas communities —representing
four denominations— attended the three-day event. Janeal Krehbiel,
nationally-known clinician and adjudicator, Lawrence, was the clinician.
|
Campers not only learned music to be used throughout the church calendar
year in their home churches, they also participated in RAG-Time (rhythm,
activities, games), an interactive concert, and other events aimed at fostering
a love for music.
|
Krehbiel and campers, joined by additional choir members from represented
churches, will return to Winfield for the camp's massed choir festival April
29, 2000. By that time, each piece of music learned at the choir camp will
have been used during worship services throughout the year in those 18 area
churches.
This is the second year that Southwestern has hosted the Children's Choir
Camp and Festival. It is open to children's choirs and accompanying choir
directors from all denominations and is held each summer in early June.
