Winfield, Kan., Jan. 16, 2002 - Enrollment in the master of business administration program at Southwestern College topped 100 this week, making it one of the fast-growing offerings ever at the college.

With its first students accepted following accreditation by the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges (The Higher Learning Commission) in the summer of 2000, the program has attracted steady enrollments in its classes held in Wichita and in Winfield. Courses last eight weeks and are taught both by full-time faculty members in Southwestern’s business administration department and by selected adjuncts with outstanding expertise in their fields.

The combination of evening courses with academic rigor forms the foundation of the program’s success, according to Scott Dalrymple, director of the MBA program.

“We designed our MBA program to appeal to working professionals who want the convenience of a part-time evening program, but the intellectual content of a more traditional program,” Dalrymple says. “We aren't the easiest program, by any means. We attract serious students with busy lives.”

Dedicated facilities for the MBA program are located at the Southwestern College Professional Studies Center at 2040 S. Rock Rd. in Wichita. The site includes two MBA classrooms fully technologically equipped to allow for the most up-to-date educational delivery methods, including capacity to link computers at every student desk. Permanently installed computer projectors allow professors and students to use Internet, PowerPoint, and other resources as part of their class presentations.

“Southwestern College knew that several other options are available to graduate students in the Wichita area, and we wanted to make sure the program was not only supported academically, but also technologically,” says Dick Merriman, president of the college. “We are pleased to see enrollments that support our decisions to make this a high-quality graduate degree, accessible and useful for our learners.”
