Winfield, Kan., Feb. 28, 2002 — A full slate of summer activities is planned on the Southwestern College campus with specific offerings for high school students through adults. SC Summer Academy offers a variety of camps for high school students who have completed ninth grade but not yet graduated; SC Summer Enrichment picks up from there and offers camps for adult learners.

SC Summer Academy is hosting camps June 9-21. They are Athletic Training Camp, Horsefeathers and Applesauce Theatre Workshop, Rotary Leadership Camp, Environmental Biology Camp, Creative Writing Camp, Football Linemen Camp, and Spanish Language Camp.

Numerous other day camps and workshops are offered at other times in the summer including an FCA football camp, Winfield Wrestling Club Camp, men’s and women’s basketball camps, and volleyball camp.

SC Summer Enrichment is offering a four-day, three-night “camp” for adults Sunday, June 2 through Wednesday, June 5. Participants can register for one topic out of a slate of 13 including bell choir, genealogy, Biblical Lives and Times: Revelations, birding, creative writing, yoga, golf (for beginner and advanced golfers), scrapbooking, Native American history, stained glass, investment savvy, and taste of technology.

“This is a great time for fun, fellowship, and continuing education and exploration, all in our comfortable new residence hall with private baths,” says Sue Simmons, SC’s director of conferences and summer programs. “I’m looking for all types of participants — even entire adult Sunday School classes — to join us for these enrichment opportunities.”

Cost for SC Summer Enrichment (for adults) is $300 per participant and includes all meals, snacks, and housing for the 4-day event. Registration is due by April 1, 2002. Cost for SC Summer Academy (for students) varies according to the camp and includes all meals, instruction, material and supplies. Registration is due by May 15, 2002.

SC Summer Academy offers:
· Athletic Training Camp; June 9-12; $200. Hands-on experience with injury recognition and management, preventative injury protection, taping and wrapping techniques, anatomy and physiology, and sport medicine.
· Horsefeathers and Applesauce Theatre Workshop; June 10-15; $225. Train with professionals, create and perform, live the life.
· Rotary Leadership Camp; June 16-21; $225. Goal setting, motivation, communication, and service projects that will give experience in team work.
· Environmental Biology Camp; June 16-21; $300. Learn about the flora and fauna in tall-grass prairie and freshwater stream ecosystems of south-central Kansas, put the scientific process to work, learn about local land-use and environmental issues.
· Creative Writing Camp; June 16-21; $270. Write stories, poems, songs, and plays.
· Football Linemen Camp; June 9-12; $200. Learn offensive and defensive line techniques with all-American linemen, hear special guest speakers.
· Spanish Language Camp; June 9-14; $285. Experience colorful and diverse Hispanic culture, learn to salsa, play soccer, be a character in a Spanish telenovela.
