Winfield, Kan., March 26, 2002 — The Southwestern
College A Cappella Choir and Southwestern Singers will perform a
concert Sunday, April 7, at 3 p.m. in Richardson Auditorium. The
concert is the last leg of the choirs’ spring tour and is open to
the public without charge.
Under the direction of James Schuppener, the 49-voice
choir will perform selections by Randall Thompson, Giuseppe Pitoni,
Joseph Flummerfelt, F. M. Christiansen, Andre J. Thomas, and others.
Southwestern Singers, a small ensemble chosen from among A Cappella
members, will perform selections by Kirby Shaw as well as an American
folk arrangement by Margaret Vance.
Schuppener is associate professor of music at Southwestern
and has led the A Cappella Choir and other ensembles since 1983.
He holds a doctor of musical arts degree from the University of
Arizona.
Both choirs are accompanied by Timothy Shook, Southwestern’s
associate professor of music, who holds a Ph.D. in music education/piano
pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma.
The A Cappella Choir and Southwestern Singers spring
tour will take them to numerous Kansas schools and other venues.
