Winfield, Kan., April 30, 2002 — Southwestern College senior Everisto Chikanga, Zimbabwe, is serving an internship as pastor at Granola United Methodist Church. Chikanga will graduate in the summer with a degree in philosophy and religion.

Chikanga leads the congregation of about 300 people under the supervision of retired United Methodist pastor Gary Parsons. He has been pastor there for about six months and will continue through the summer.

“It has been a wonderful experience,” says Chikanga. “It feels great to be used by God to share the good news.”

After completion of his degree at Southwestern, Chikanga plans to go to a seminary in the United States. He then hopes to return to Zimbabwe to serve the church there.

Southwestern philosophy and religious studies students or students participating in Discipleship Southwestern have the opportunity to intern in a variety of ministry situations and settings. More than 20 students are either currently serving as interns or will serve in internship positions over the summer.
