Welcome to the Center for Music Composition at Southwestern College.  We are pleased to offer a full curriculum of courses in music theory, music history, counterpoint, orchestration, audio and recording technology, film scoring, and applied composition (acoustic and electronic).  Instruction is open to both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as a limited number of high school students enrolled through the SC Community Music School.

The Southwestern College Music Department is home to many fine performers and ensembles that are willing to read, record, and perform new student compositions.  These include a full symphony orchestra, concert band, a cappella choir, jazz band, and many smaller ensembles and individuals.  In addition, our electronic music studio contains the latest composition software including Pro Tools 9, Logic Studio, and Sibelius 6, with a 24-bit AD converter and high quality recording microphones and speakers.  Students use this equipment to create electronic music, build groove and pop tracks, and record and edit complete film scores or concert performances.

If you are interested in music composition, consider applying for our Bachelor of Music, Master of Arts in Music, or Community Music School programs here at Southwestern College.  A limited number of scholarships are available.  Please feel free to contact us for more information – we would love to find a place for you in the Center for Music Composition.
