SC Student Trainers Attend KATS Seminar

Ten Southwestern College athletic training students attended the Kansas Athletic Trainers’ Society (KATS) Seminar held at Kansas State University on Sunday, Nov. 8.

Topics that were discussed at the symposium included management of cervical spine injured athletes, dermatological considerations in athletics, hypernatremia, exercise induced bronchospasm, and the industrial work setting for the athletic trainer.

“We are constantly encouraging our students to do things that will strengthen their resume,” Braun says. “The KATS seminar is a great opportunity to do this as well as to make connections with other students and certified athletic trainers in the state.”

Southwestern students who attended were: Blake Smith, Dexter; Kayla Lovell, Waukomis, Okla; Taylor Bleumer, Ingalls; Heather Gilmore, Kinsley; Courtney Jones, Madera, Calif; Cody Walther, Derby; Abbie Woods, Glencoe, Okla; Olyvia Bish, Mulvane; Taylor Henderson, Sapulpa, Okla; and Jordyn Miller, Wichita. They were accompanied by Lisa Braun, director of athletic training education; Amanda Beadle, head athletic trainer; and Lock Schnelle, assistant athletic trainer.
