SC Enactus to Host Special Olympics Basketball Tournament

The Southwestern College Enactus team is hosting a basketball tournament for Special Olympians on Saturday, March 5, at Winfield High School.  There is no admission charge to attend and the public is invited to come and support the athletes.

“Part of the Enactus experience involves project work, and I wanted to do something that hasn’t been done before.  I have always had an interest in doing a Special Olympics activity,” says Alison Ornbaun, Enactus project leader.

“I think this will be a really good legacy project that we can do year after year,” says Kristen Pettey, assistant professor of business and Enactus co-advisor.  “We picked basketball because we can do it at any time and not have to worry about weather.”

Six teams from around the state of Kansas have signed up to participate.  Each participant will receive a ribbon and a T-shirt.  Individual and team trophies will be awarded to the top three teams.

Along with the team competition, there will also be a skills competition and trophies will be awarded.  Enactus will provide lunch for teams.
Ornbaun says that donations for this not-for-profit event would be appreciated.  To make a donation, contact Ornbaun at (530) 908-3149 or by emailing Alison.ornbaun@sckans.edu. To contact Pettey, call (620) 229-6324 or email Kristen.pettey@sckans.edu.
