John McCutcheon to Perform at Southwestern College

Walnut Valley Festival favorite John McCutcheon will perform with the South Kansas Symphony in Winfield Saturday, April 16, at 8 p.m., in the Richardson Performing Arts Center (RPAC) on the campus of Southwestern College.  Tickets are $22.50 for adults, $15 for children, $20 for alumni, and $10 for children of alumni.  RPAC is located in the lobby of the Christy Administration Building.

McCutcheon has emerged as one of the nation’s most respected and loved folksingers. As an instrumentalist, he is a master of a dozen different traditional instruments, most notably the hammer dulcimer. His songwriting has been hailed by critics and singers around the globe. His 30 recordings have garnered every imaginable honor including seven Grammy nominations. He has produced more than 20 albums of other artists, from traditional fiddlers to contemporary singer-songwriters to educational and documentary works. His books and instructional materials have introduced budding players to the joys of their own musicality. And his commitment to grassroots political organizations has put him on the front lines of many of the issues important to communities and workers.

The South Kansas Symphony, conducted by Amber Peterson, will be a featured guest of John McCutcheon. South Kansas Symphony is a full orchestra made up of Southwestern College students, faculty, and alumni, as well as players from many surrounding communities in Kansas. This concert will be the symphony's second performance featuring bluegrass music this season.  The first one was on March 6 as they performed with Milltown, a progressive bluegrass band from the Quad Cities area.

For tickets or for more information about the concert, contact Jessica Falk, director of camps and conferences at SC, at (620) 229-6141 or purchase online at www.sckans.edu/RPAC.
