Builder Bikes Looking for Donations

Southwestern College senior Emily Tilton is starting a bicycle rental program at SC called Builder Bikes.  She is hoping that community members will donate their gently used and unwanted bicycles for SC students to use.

Tilton, a Douglass native, wants students to have easy access to bicycles.

“Biking is a sustainable, cost effective, and healthy form of transportation,” Tilton says.  “I enjoy the peace of being outdoors with my friends and want my fellow students to have the same opportunity. We surveyed 25 students. Only three of these students had bikes on campus. Every student who did not have a bike on campus was interested in renting a bike from the school. Many students live out of state or even out of the country. This makes it difficult for students to bring their own bikes from home. Builder Bikes hopes to provide these students easy access to bicycles.”

The bicycles will eventually be stored in the basement of Deets Library and students will check them out from there.

Interested community members may donate their gently used bikes on Saturday, May 30, from 12 to 5 p.m. Bikes can be brought to the lawn off of Warren and Houston street next to Sutton Hall. If anyone would like to donate but is unable to do so on May 30, contact Emily Tilton at mly.tilton@gmail.com or (316) 759-9705.
