Faculty and Staff Honored at Southwestern

Outstanding faculty and staff were recognized at Southwestern College by the college’s board of trustees.  Five awards were presented Friday, April 15, for outstanding service to the college, and 30 employees were honored for years of service.

Presented were the Fassnacht Outstanding Administrator/Staff (Campus) Award to Susan Lowe, director of alumni programs; the Fassnacht Outstanding Administrator/Staff Award (Professional Studies) to Eloy Mendoza, director of marketing for Professional Studies; the Fassnacht Outstanding Faculty Award to Stephen Woodburn, associate professor of history; and the United Methodist Exemplary Teacher Award to Jeremy Kirk, assistant professor of music and director of bands.  The Builder Spirit Award, a one-time special award, was presented to Terah York.

Aidan Goodrich, president of the Student Government Association (SGA) at Southwestern College, presented the SGA faculty and staff citations during the ceremony.  The staff citation was awarded to Kathy Mignone, Fresh Ideas.  The faculty citation went to Carrie Lane, associate professor of psychology.

 “These are wonderfully talented people who exemplify the best of the Builder Spirit,” says Andy Sheppard, vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty at Southwestern.  “The awards express the community’s appreciation for the subtle leadership and service that these colleagues provide to others on a daily basis.”

Awards for years of service were also presented for: 
•    25 years: Brenda Hicks, Cheryl Rude, and Martin Rude
•    20 years: Lisa Lowery and Kathy Mignone
•    15 years: Pat Boggs, Sheila Krug, Stanley Nichols, and Holly Peterson
•    10 years: Rodney Baker, Linda Kissire, Ed Loeb, Nili Luo, Mary Passmore, Zhiqun Qian, Joni Rankin, and Stacy Sparks
•    5 years: Sheryl Erickson, Rose Hanna, Zak Larson, James McEwen, Tammy McEwen, Keith McLaughlin, Alexis Miers, Jennifer Nicholson, Pam Olney, Wilma Schremmer, Barbara Wilson, Marvin Wilson, and Terah York.
