Congratulations! to Andrew Burdick and Lauren Schmitz for winning the MTNA State Composition Competition with pieces composed at the 2011 Summer Music Festival.


Faculty

Christopher SchmitzDr. Christopher Schmitz, composition. Dr. Schmitz is the director of the Center for Music Composition at Southwestern College. His jazz and classical compositions have been featured in performance venues throughout the United States (including Carnegie Hall) and his music has appeared in award-winning feature films. Schmitz presented sessions on “Teaching Musicianship Through Composition” at the 2012 Kansas Music Educators Association conference.

Hermes CamachoDr. Hermes Camacho is a composer and conductor from northern California. He earned degrees from Cal State Long Beach (B.M.), the University of Colorado (M.M.), and The University of Texas at Austin (D.M.A.) and is currently on the faculty of the Austin Chamber Music Center, Cole Conservatory (California), Sonorous Ensemble, and the Sacramento Youth Symphony. He and his wife live in Austin.
