Safety & Security
The Southwestern security staff is here for your assistance and protection. The office is responsible for coordinating protection of your personal safety and property and that of the college. Additional functions of this department include campus escorts, motor vehicle registration, lost and found property, and reporting damage and/or theft of personal or college property. They are located on the top floor of the Sutton Center. They can be reached by dialing 9-229-0012 from any campus phone.
Fire and/or building evacuations
Whenever a fire alarm is sounded or an emergency warning is given, immediate action is required of all residents and or guests. Please be aware of the following emergency evacuation procedures:
- Open curtains and blinds and leave the lights on if time permits. This helps the fire department determine more quickly which rooms have been evacuated.
- Exit room and building IMMEDIATELY
- Wear shoes, take your room keys, carry a coat, and a cellular phone if you have one.

Campus Security Act
The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act is the landmark federal law, originally known as the Campus Security Act, that requires colleges and universities across the United States to disclose information about crime on and around their campuses.
Because the law is tied to participation in federal student financial aid programs it applies to most institutions of higher education both public and private. It is enforced by the U.S. Department of Education.
The college must provide a statement advising the campus community where law enforcement agency information provided by a state concerning registered sex offenders may be obtained, such as the law enforcement office of the institution, a local law enforcement agency with jurisdiction for the campus, or a computer network.
Institutions are required to provide the campus community with information that would enable them to obtain this public information on campus. The intention of this requirement is to afford the campus community the same availability of information about registered sex offenders as they would have in their home communities under Megan’s Law.
