USD465 has one immediate opening (and another 1 starting this summer) for student internship. It is a tech support type position involving supporting teachers in the school district regarding general software/computer usage and trouble-shooting hardware problems. Max 20 hours each week with $. Interns would receive not only hands on experience, but would also find learning opportunities that would help expand their real world experience. If needed they will provide training for new student interns. Interested students should contact:

Cowley County Mental Health Dept. is looking for 2 or 3 students that would typically help users with PC issues, assisting with IT projects and to do help-desk type work. They are looking for someone with network experience, PC support and phone system support experience.

There is a disconnect between students getting high-tech degrees and what employers are looking for in those graduates. Organizations are looking for institutions to teach new skills to their future graduates, such as programming, database, analysis and architectural, and problem-solving skills, which are needed by 77 percent, 82 percent, 76 percent and 80 percent of the organizations polled, respectively according to a survey of 376 organizations that are members of the IBM user group Share and Database Trends and Applications subscribers. The market for U.S.-based computing careers is expected to thrive, with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projecting that computing will be one of the fastest-growing U.S. job markets in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) for the foreseeable future. Almost 75 percent of new U.S. science or engineering jobs will be in computing, while just 16 percent will be in traditional engineering positions. The BLS predicts that 27 percent of the new STEM positions will be in software engineering, while new jobs in computer networking and systems analysis will greatly outnumber those in traditional engineering. Dr. Guthrie's Bio:

Randy Guthrie is an Academic Developer Evangelist for Microsoft Corporation. In this role, Randy provides academic and research support to faculty and students at schools in the southwestern portion of the US. Prior to his working at Microsoft, Randy was a professor at Cal Poly Pomona, where he taught software engineering, programming and information systems courses. During his tenure at Cal Poly, Randy was also the volunteer Director of a community employment center. Before his appointment at Cal Poly, Randy spent thirteen years working for the Northrop Grumman Corporation, where he was a contract manager on the Stealth Bomber project, a project manager, and financial analyst. Randy earned his Bachelors Degree in Business from the University of La Verne in 1991, an MBA in 1998 from the Peter F. Drucker School of Management, and a PhD in Information Science in 2007 from the School of Information Science and Technology at Claremont Graduate University. Randy currently resides in Denver, Colorado with his wife Jane and son Seth where he has spent way too much time skiing this winter.
