Wallace and Ina retired in May of 1996, Wallace from Southwestern College and Ina from Pi Gamma Mu -- he from serving as the Kirk Professor of Philosophy and Religion, she from the position of Executive Director of Pi Gamma Mu. The Gray's have visited 64 countries ; their most recent adventure was a trip to Tibet, "the top of the world" in 2007.

Shortly after retirement, Wallace was asked to become Visiting Professor of American Culture at Kitakyushu University in Kitakyushu, Japan. Ina was his research assistant, especially for the course on the Land and History of America. Also she was appointed to teach conversational English at the university.

Since the 1960s Wallace has been involved in the Plott project on the Global History of Philosophy. That project brought him in contact with Eiji Hattori. During the year at Kitakyushu University, Wallace was invited by Dr. Hattori to lecture for him at Reitaku University in the Tokyo area on that project. Dr. Hattori asked Wallace to translate from the Japanese Hattori's book concerning the silk roads and the dialogue of civilizations. Ina was publication facilitator for this project. The title of the work is Letters from the Silk Roads: Thinking at the Crossroads of Civilization (University Press of America, 2000). Ina and Wallace enjoy many opportunities to volunteer in church and community, including the privilege of listening to second graders read, one-on-one.
