Former Tennis Champions are Grand Marshalls for Homecoming Parade

The Southwestern College Homecoming Parade will be Saturday, Oct. 12, beginning at 9:30 a.m., on Winfield’s Main Street. The line-up will include many entries from the Southwestern College community as well as the Winfield Police Department, the Winfield Fire Department, and the Wichita Dynamic Steppers. The parade route will begin at 15th and Main and travel north to 10th street.

This year’s parade marshalls are Jim Farney and Neil Frank, 1953 graduates and doubles teammates who captured the CIC doubles tennis championship and the state championship, and placed fourth in the NAIA National Tennis Championship in 1953.

• Jim Farney is from Vero Beach, Fla., and is a former trustee of the college.  Both he and his wife, Bette, are alumni of SC. Jim is retired from his role as vice president of Travelers Corporation and spends a lot of time playing tennis, volunteering for Meals on Wheels, and helping to repair homes of some of the people served by Meals on Wheels.
• Neil Frank is from Fulshear, Texas (near Houston), and is the retired director of the National Hurricane Center in Coral Gables, Fla.  He is considered one of the nation’s foremost authority on hurricanes, and is former chief meteorologist for KHOU-TV in Houston.

Numerous activities are scheduled for alumni as well as for friends of the college.  For more information, go to http://www.sckans.edu/homecoming.
