John McCutcheon to Perform February 8 at Southwestern College

Walnut Valley Festival favorite John McCutcheon will perform in Winfield Saturday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m., in the Richardson Performing Arts Center (RPAC) on the campus of Southwestern College.  Tickets are $22.50 for general seating; there are no reserved seats for the show.  RPAC is located in the Christy Administration Building.

McCutcheon has emerged as one of our most respected and loved folksingers. As an instrumentalist, he is a master of a dozen different traditional instruments, most notably the rare and beautiful hammer dulcimer. His songwriting has been hailed by critics and singers around the globe. His 30 recordings have garnered every imaginable honor including seven Grammy nominations. He has produced over 20 albums of other artists, from traditional fiddlers to contemporary singer-songwriters to educational and documentary works. His books and instructional materials have introduced budding players to the joys of their own musicality. And his commitment to grassroots political organizations has put him on the front lines of many of the issues important to communities and workers.

The McCutcheon concert is the first in an expected series of RPAC events designed to showcase the renovated auditorium.

“Our own college performers have loved the space, and now we want to show it’s a regional treasure as well,” says Steve Wilke, vice president for planning and new programs at Southwestern College.

For tickets or for more information about the concert, contact Jessica Falk, director of camps and conferences at SC, at (620) 229-6141 or look online at www.sckans.edu/RPAC.
