The Southwestern College yearbook will be reimagined in 2019 school year. The division of computer science, communications and English, in consultation with the Student Government Association will be working to launch the 114-year journalistic tradition of “The Moundbuilder” into a new digital era, moving away from the printed format. 

“As our division works to provide innovative opportunities for students to practice their writing, photography and design skills, we must concentrate on contemporary modes of delivery,” said Stacy Sparks, associate professor of journalism and program coordinator for convergent journalism. 

“The Moundbuilder” has been a steadfast servant of the college since its first edition in 1905. Generations of Builders have worked and learned while capturing images and writing stories that archive the college experience and our collective memory. 

“From the hauntingly beautiful photos of Old North Hall in black and white, to the vibrant sunsets captured down The 77 - there will never be another college with a more beautiful and artistic remembrance of bygone days,” said Sparks.  

 Students of the college will be asked to participate in the process of identifying how to best capture the school year in a digital format.

“We are excited to engage students in the continuation of this annual tradition in a new format,” said Ross Peterson-Veatch, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college. “This process will serve as a wonderful learning experience as students imagine the ways a digital time capsule can and will best serve this generation.”
