Amp It Up @ the Summit Day Camp to be Held in Mulvane and Winfield July 15 and 16

Two summer camps at Southwestern College have joined forces and are inviting area youth to attend camp in Mulvane or Winfield.

The camp is for students entering ninth grade through 2021 graduates and the cost is $45.  The camp will be in Mulvane on Thursday, July 15, from 1 to 9 p.m., at Mulvane United Methodist Church. This includes a 7:30 p.m. worship service that is open to anyone. The camp will conclude with a barn party and night of worship at the Barns @ Timber Creek in Winfield on Friday, July 16, from 5-9 p.m. Any high school youth, friends, and parents of Amp It Up @ the Summit, or alums of Amp It Up Worship Band Camp or the Summit Youth Academy are invited to attend.

Amp it Up @ the Summit is a ministry of the Richard and Julia Wilke Institute for Discipleship at Southwestern College.  According to Wendy Mohler-Seib, director of faith formation for the Institute, the camp is a way to bring the best of what the summer experiences offer to communities in one day; a boiled-down version of what is done in a week on campus.

“Amp It Up @ the Summit offers one day to space to stop and listen,” Mohler-Seib says.  “We provide helpful ways to discover God’s peace, assurance, and hope. We help high school youth learn how to tell the difference between God’s voice and the other voices fighting for their attention. We do this through studying, praying, and sharing. We offer classes in hearing God through prayer and scripture and worship training in worship leadership in music and leadership in technology for worship.”

The activities for each will be led by co-directors Martin Rude and Mohler-Seib. College students are "Guides" to participants leading the various small groups throughout the day. The worship band includes Sarah Miller, Josh Melcher, Anjaih Clemons, and Justin Williams. The Preacher for the week is Rodney Worsham.

Teaching team includes Molly Just (Hearing God's Voice in Prayer), Jordan McFall (Hearing God's Voice in Scripture), Kenny Allman (Worship Leadership through Technology), SC Alumni Band (Worship Leadership through Music); and Lori Richey and Emily Robinson (IFD Administrative Staff).
