Southwestern College Youth Symphony Auditions Coming Up Quickly!

The Southwestern College Youth Symphony (SCYS) is holding auditions for the 2016-2017 season May 31st through June 2nd. All auditions are held at Southwestern College in Darbeth Rehearsal Hall. Studentss are expected to have a short piece prepared to show their level of  playing, a 2-3 octave scale of choice, and be prepared to play a short sight reading exercise. The audition fee is $5.00.

Students who are in their second year of playing, through 12th grade, are invited to audition. SCYS is accepting students who play the following instruments:violin, viola, cello, string bass, flute, piccolo, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, percussion, electric bass, and electric guitar.

The 2016-2017 will bring a new ensemble back into the program. The Southwestern Philharmonic will be open to all string students to help them develop as a musician. This ensemble is designed specifically for students who want to improve their playing but are not yet ready for the challenging music of the older group, the Youth Symphony. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to take what they learn in school outside of their classroom walls and apply it in a different setting.
