South Kansas Symphony to Celebrate Women in Classical Music on Sunday

The South Kansas Symphony will celebrate women in classical music with its upcoming concert “Femme Musicale” on Sunday, March 6, at 3 p.m., in Richardson Performing Arts Center at Southwestern College.

Two soloists from Wichita, Laura Hammes Black and Dr. Elizabeth Wallace, will perform Mozart's “Sinfonie Concertante,” a double concerto for violin and viola. The concert will also feature music by women composers Joan Tower and Florence Price. Tower's “Sixth Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman” will open the performance. 

Florence Price's “Symphony No. 4” will be performed in the second half of the performance.

Dr. Elizabeth Wallace“This piece was recently rediscovered and has not been widely performed yet,” says Amber Peterson, conductor of the South Kansas Symphony.  “Audiences in South Central Kansas will enjoy these unique selections.”

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children (5-18). Southwestern College students, faculty, and staff are free.
