Piano Emphasis

Two options are available in the piano emphasis:

  • Beginning Piano - For those participants who want to learn piano and have not had the opportunity prior to the 2014 festival.
  • Experienced Pianists - Participants may study solo, duet, and chamber literature while advancing colloboration skills.

Daily Festival Activities Include:

  • 30 Minute Private Piano Lesson
  • 30 Minute Piano Duet/Ensemble and/or  Chamber Ensemble Coaching
  • Practice Time
  • Music Theory – 2 sections
  • Music Understanding (Music Listening and Appreciation) – 2 sections
  • Evening Activities – Performances and Entertainment

Faculty

Timothy ShookDr. Tim Shook, piano, festival dean. Dr. Shook is chair of the Division of Performing Arts at Southwestern College and operates a large independent piano studio in Wichita. He has coached several state winners of the KMTA Honors Auditions, serves on the MTNA board of directors, and is past president of KMTA. He co-chaired the designing of Music Progressions, a non-competitive syllabus of independent music study, for KMTA. Shook has presented workshops for piano teachers throughout the Midwest, as well as in New York City, Malaysia, and Singapore.
