Teaching Effectiveness

Southwestern College is in the process of collecting data about its program completer's teaching effectiveness.

The SC Education Division will use data collected from the Teacher Strength’s Survey to determine indicators of teaching effectiveness. 2019-2020 is the first year to use the Teacher Strength Survey, developed for the purpose of gathering evidence to support CAEP Standard 4 Impact Measures. Survey information is gathered from practicing and licensed 1st and 3rd year teachers who have completed the Southwestern College educator preparation program. The same information is gathered from the novice teacher’s assigned building principal.  Once a preponderance of evidence from the survey is established, along with other measures of evidence, the Teacher Strength Survey data will be used to identify and validate indicators of teaching effectiveness, support program changes, and monitor program improvements.

In addition to the Teacher Strength Survey collected after graduation and employment of SC college graduates, a walk-through model has been established to determine indicators of teaching effectiveness while students are enrolled at SC and assigned to PDS or student teaching coursework.
