As you read this, 2004 is well underway
and exciting things are taking place in the alumni department. In response
to requests for more stories and information on alumni and the college,
we’ve decided to forego the listing of alumni volunteers in each
quarterly issue of The Southwesterner. Rather, we will include one list
of all volunteers for the fiscal year (July 1 – June 31) in the
annual Honor Roll publication that is produced every fall. Meanwhile,
please check the on-going “Thank You to Our Volunteers”
list on the improved alumni Web site at www.sckans.edu/alumni2/ and
express appreciation to any alumni you know who have volunteered on
behalf of SC.
Also in response to your requests, we have begun the
process of compiling a new Southwestern College alumni directory. This
is scheduled for completion in 2005 (the previous edition came out in
2000). Please be on the lookout for a directory questionnaire that will
be mailed out around June of this year. We hope to obtain an alumni
list that is as complete and accurate as possible and this can be done
only with your help. Contact me if you have questions about this or

Hall of Fame and Founders Day at Southwestern College.
Alumni who have had distinguished careers in higher education will be
honored at this inaugural celebration, along with recognition for Heritage
Society alumni and dedication of the Women’s Hall in honor of
Ward M. Cole '30.

p.m. SC Volunteer Come-and-Go Reception, Pounds Lounge,
hosted by the SC alumni programs department. If you have volunteered
in any capacity at the college this school year, you are invited to

p.m. Oklahoma City Red Hawks alumni event! Join us in
Oklahoma City as we gather for an evening of food, fun, Builders and
baseball, as the Red Hawks battle the Nashville Sounds. Special thanks
to the Daily Oklahoman for providing their suite for our use at the
stadium. Alumni co-hosts for the event are Sue Hale ’66,
Steve Hiebsch ’70, and Joanna Moss ’01.

’77 and a group of SC alumni and friends as we gather
for a delightful evening and some famous Chicago pizza.

Make plans to join a great group of alumni and friends for fun and excitement
in Chicago, including a Cubs game at historic Wrigley Field. Check the

an event is being held to attend. All alumni and friends of
the college are welcome to attend any of our events, regardless

Inaugural
Scholars Hall of Fame
Just a reminder, the inaugural celebration
of the Southwestern College Scholars Hall of Fame will be held on Saturday,
April 17, 2004, in the Roy L. Smith Dining Hall. Honored inductees will
be Sidney DeVere Brown ’47, William M. Cloud ’47, Richard
H. Leftwich ’41, Kenneth M. McCaffree ’40, and Emmet G.
Smith ’50. Anyone may attend but reservations should be made by

Chicago!
Chicago… here we come! Alumni and
friends of SC are welcome to join us for the next SC travel trip to
the wonderful city of Chicago. Dates of the trip are July 15-18, 2004,
and we will be staying in The Fairfield Inn and Suites in the heart
of downtown. In addition to dinner at the well-known Joey Buona’s
Pizzeria Grille for some famous Chicago pizza, and a three-course plated
brunch at the Chicago Pump Room (well-liked by Frank Sinatra and Harry
Caray), we will enjoy a Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers ballgame
at historic Wrigley Field, plus there will be lots of time for shopping
or sightseeing. And, if you get a group of four to go on the trip, you
may be eligible for a $50 rebate!

Southwestern
College has gone tropical!
A
delightful group of alumni, parents, and friends of the college went
on a fun-filled trip to Hawaii from December 28, 2003, through January
3, 2004. The two-island journey featured among other things, a scrumptious
dinner gathering which included Hawaii area alumni and the Builder men’s
basketball team and coaches. Persons attending also enjoyed seeing the
men’s team battle against Hawaii Pacific University on the basketball
court, and nearly beat the NCAA division II school with a score of 71
to 70. Thanks to everyone who made the trip possible!
Calling
All Volunteers!
If you have volunteered in any capacity
for the college over the last year, Southwestern College wants to thank
you for your efforts. Please join us for a come-and-go volunteer reception
in your honor, which will be hosted by the SC alumni programs department.
On Thursday, April 22, from 4:30-6 p.m. in Pounds Lounge, we will be
looking forward to seeing you and expressing our thanks for the role
you have filled to make SC an outstanding college. We hope to see you
there, but if you can’t make it, please know how very much your
efforts are appreciated!
