A motion was made by Treasurer Jewett to pass the minutes as unread. Motion passed without debate. 

Officer Reports: 

All execs- Strategic Planning Forum 

ï‚· Strategic planning meeting led by the president. 

ï‚· Four different categories—Academic, Co-curricular, Financial and Building Plant 

o Helping to strategize how money should be spent 

ï‚· Another meeting Wednesday at 4 in Wroten—anyone is welcome. 

o All opinions are welcome! 


Open Period/Announcements: 

ï‚· T-shirts 

o Design approved 

ï‚· Workshop 

o SGA is putting on a workshop for organizations and students to participate in. This workshop is to help students run organizations smoothly and help them use all of the executive positions wisely. 

o Organizations are highly encouraged to attend. 

o January 22nd in the afternoon in the cafeteria, time will be determined at a later date. 

o Helping the organizations at Southwestern survive and thrive for years to come. 

o Empowering organizations on campus. 

ï‚· Organization announcements 

o Jay Buffum- SC Republicans 

 Congressman Pompeo- visited campus 3 weeks ago. 

 Biggest group he ever visited on a college campus- over 100 people in attendance. 

 Thought highly of the school. 

 Jay Buffam has been elected chair of the Cowley County Republican party 

o Campus Players 

 Closed a play last weekend. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead including The 15 minute Hamlet. 



 Participating entry for Kennedy Center theater contest. They are being held with a chance of performing at the festival. Exciting news! 

 Saturday at 7:00pm. Music theater ensemble and SC singers fall concert. SC singers will be singing Beyoncé and Disney medleys. 

ï‚· All of them have solos of common jukebox songs. 

o Gaming Club 

 Friday is a board game night in the gaming lounge it will be at 6:30. A fun way to relax before Thanksgiving. 

o Student Foundation 

 Movie night on Wednesday- tomorrow. SC spirit night, wear SC colors and yearbook staff will be there taking pictures. 

 Write down what you are thankful for and take a picture with it. 

 Doors will open at 9:00 and the movie will begin at 9:30. 

 SC Christmas 

ï‚· Weeklong event the first week of December 

ï‚· Fun events throughout the week. 

ï‚· Letter art, tree lighting ceremony, massages on campus, bingo night after the nine lives show, decorating wreaths and ornaments.

For October 11, 2016 

Call to Order: 

The meeting was called to order by Vice President Jones at 8:06 PM 

Invocation: Given by Student Conduct Advisor Jordan.

There were (5) executives present and (9) Senators and (12/17) Organizations. 

Approval of Minutes: 

A motion was made by Treasurer Jewett to pass the minutes as unread. Motion passed without debate. 

Officer Reports: 

President – Student Concerns Board of Trustees- Justin Williams gave a presentation about international students on campus. Alyson Moon was the faculty rep and she talked about the problems with the Wi-Fi. The institute for Discipleship got a $500,000 grant from the lily foundation. This grant is used for a project called the Summit and a masters in specialized ministry with an influence in youth ministry. At Summit, current students will help mentor high school students that come on campus for a week that believe they are called to ministry. Application to be a mentor is due before Christmas break. 

Vice President – Academic Affairs Board of Trustees- Wi-Fi is going to be improved. 10 routers are being added all around campus. They are adding one in all the major hotspots on campus. 

Secretary – Academic Affairs Board of Trustees- 100% of students that committed to southwestern came versus a normal 70% rate. Wanting to raise the retention rate 2%.

ï‚· 7-10 volunteer for shifts 

ï‚· Can play during shifts you aren’t working 


Enactus Fundraiser 

ï‚· Raising money for a campus in Florida that was damaged during the hurricane.

ï‚· Plays Saint Mary’s on Saturday 


Pre-Health Professionals 

ï‚· Go get your flu shot 10:00-2:00 bring insurance card and it is free. 

ï‚· If you don’t have insurance it will cost $25. 


SGA Open Floor 

ï‚· Voting- 216 people voted for finals for Queen and King 

ï‚· Campaigning may not be allowed within a certain area of voting—looking into it for homecoming vs senate elections 

o Option to implement new law

o Asked to be given out a little earlier, possibly 2 weeks ahead of time. 

ï‚· Sorority and Fraternity 

o Rumors of students trying to start these organizations on campus.

MBA Project- Tobacco Free Campus 

Sinead, Kirstin, Delaney, Audrey 

Project in class to make a tobacco free campus 

Group has talked to Kristin Petty and President- wants faculty staff and students on board. $25000 grant from Kansas Health Foundation. Friends University is going tobacco free July 1. President wants everyone on board- to prevent second hand smoke. Eliminating paying people to pick up cigarette butts. On the off-site facilities as well. All types of tobacco eliminated- dips and cigarettes. As soon as possible to implement this- possibly as soon as July 1: Implement before baseball gets started. Questions opposed about implementation and determining what is “getting people on board”, e-cigs, designated smoking areas, the effects this policy will have on recruitment and retention, consequences, fines, etc. MBA group considered surveying student 

body. Will meet with staff and Tracy Frederick and have received support from athletics, as they want to go tobacco free. To get the grant it could be that all tobacco has to be banned. 

Senator Jay Buffum requested senators and organization representatives have open discussion with senate and separate groups before voting on SGA support during next senate meeting. 

All agreed to send emails and questions to Audrey at or and will send final responses to SGA by Friday (9/30) 

Opened the floor to the senate to discuss.

o Mike Pompeo coming to speak October 25th, event open to all students. Mossman 101 at 12:00.

ï‚· The only events SGA is participating in is cupcake making and window decorating. 

o Email or if you would like to participate. 

ï‚· The theme is “Up with knowledge” 

o If anyone asks, no dodgeball, replaced with bubble soccer.

o Spirit night for Volleyball against Friends. 

o Mum-making- fun for everyone.

<![CDATA[Senate Meeting Notes January 15th, 2013]]> The first meeting of the Spring 2013 was held on January 15th. The senate discussed community service hours for organizations to qualify as a Tier One organization (more information about the tiered system can be found in the funding policy). There were two allocations that were in Intro to Legislation. The senate disussed possible fun activites, programs, and events for this semester.

Massages will be offered in Campus Life, and a sign-up sheet is available for 15 time slots between 11am - noon and 1-3pm for next Tues., Wed., and Thurs....
