Athletic Training Staff Attend Convention

Southwestern College Athletic Trainer’s made a trip east to St. Louis, MO for the 59th annual National Athletic Trainers’ Association National Convention. Two staff members and four students were able to attend the five day event held June 17th – 21st.

The attendees included Lisa Braun, Director of Athletic Training Education and Amanda Beadle, Head Athletic Trainer.  The four students who attended included, Nathan Morrison, Osborne, KS, Whitney Baker, Independence, MO, Valarie Hart, Wewoka, OK, and Rene Schwan, Salina, KS.

During the convention they were able to attend lectures and hands on seminars in numerous athletic training related subject areas. Students were given the opportunity to meet NBA athletic trainers during a cadaver session, network with other athletic training students during a social before a St. Louis Cardinals game and even go up in the arch! The group received funding through fundraising, numerous donors and of course support from Southwestern College.

Amanda Beadle, Head Athletic Trainer said, “This was a great opportunity for these students to meet others within our profession. The people they met at the convention could some day be their employer. It’s also a great reward for how hard they work for me and our athletics’ program.”
