Service Learning

Service Learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich learning experiences, teach civic responsibility and strengthen communities. At Southwestern, there is a strong emphasis on service learning as evident in our missions statement: “Leadership through service in a world without boundaries”. There are three service learning teams on campus:

The Service Learning directors help students put structure to their liberal arts education and service experience with the Service Learning Tour. Southwestern students volunteer and serve in many different ways throughout their time at SC. The tour highlights some of the big ways students serve and allows for "free spaces" specific to when individual teams or people volunteer.  SC is committed in mission to leadership through service in a world without boundaries. Students need to complete 3 core events and 2 free spaces on the tour.  Students can pick up their Service Learning Tour t-shirt upon completion in the Service Learning office (Mossman 105). Email Brae.Wood@sckans.edu (Director of Service Learning) for more information.
