At Southwestern College, we pride ourselves on proving the utmost quality in the English Department. Our alumni are successfully prepared to pursue a wide range of employment opportunities in teaching, medicine, law, journalism, technological studies, publishing, entertainment, public relations, non-profits, and many others.

In the English major, there are three emphasis areas: Creative Writing, Secondary Education, and Digital Storytelling. With rigorous coursework that covers literary works from the ancient classics to the present day, the degree guides students to enhance their own talents and explore insights into the human condition. A degree in English develops the ability to communicate effectively, conduct thorough research, and ultimately think critically.

The comprehensive skills acquired as an English major will be an asset in any work environment. Research demonstrates that students who major in English have a  higher employment rate than other graduates with more technical degrees.
