Pre-Health Professionals (PHP)

What is PHP?

Our Goal

The purpose of the Pre-Health Professionals (PHP) organization is to assist each other in preparing for professional school, by increasing our knowledge and understanding of healthcare and expanding our healthcare skills through hands on learning opportunities and health related services to others.

Career interests of current members include:

• medicine
• dentistry
• optometry
• physical therapy (PT)
• physician associate/assistant (PA)
• pharmacy
• occupational therapy (OT)
• medical laboratory research

What do we do?

We meet biweekly throughout the academic year, and we:

• share resources and research professional schools to prepare for health-related careers, e.g. entrance exams, identify prerequisite courses, GPA expectations, clinical or shadowing experience, recommendation letters, application timelines, financial aid and loans.
• invite speakers in health science careers, many of whom are SC alums, e.g. physician assistant, physical therapist, respiratory therapist, medical lab researcher.
• organize health awareness events on campus, e.g. caffeine, nutrition.
• volunteer in Winfield and on campus, e.g. nursing home, campus blood drive.
• like to have fun! e.g. end of semester party, design SC logos for yearly PHP shirts.
