SC Symphonic Band to Begin in January; Community Members Invited to Participate

Community members, ages 16 and up who play a wind or percussion instrument, are invited and encouraged to participate in the Southwestern College Symphonic Band, which will begin its inaugural season in January.

The band will be under the direction of Jeremy Kirk, assistant professor of music at Southwestern College.  Kirk says that the band will learn and explore all areas of band literature ranging from traditional repertoire to new compositions by leading composers.

“I am very excited to create the SC Symphonic Band,” Kirk says.  “The group will serve both SC students and members of the community.  By working together in a positive, nourishing environment, we will create a truly rewarding experience that will enhance personal and musical growth of all participants while enriching the arts within the community.”

Rehearsals will occur on Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m., in the Richardson Performing Arts Center beginning January 12.  To register or for more information, please contact Kirk at (620) 229-6303 or email
