The Southwestern Saga

The Southwestern Saga - LogoThe Southwestern Saga is a podcast project exploring the 140-year saga of Southwestern College from its founding in 1885 to today.

Thanks to a grant from the Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education (NetVUE), we have interviewed dozens of Southwestern alumni about their experiences at Southwestern College. Our interview subjects differ in every way possible—age, gender, socio-economic background, religion, major, etc. The only common thread among them is that they are Southwestern College graduates. They are Builders. And we wanted to understand the saga of Southwestern—both good and bad—through their stories and their experiences. Over the course of these podcasts, we will share their stories and our insights into what we found to be the connective tissue running throughout the 140-year saga. And that is the Builder Spirit.

Episode 1: The Richardson Fire

The 1950 fire, which consumed Richardson, was a turning point in the life of Southwestern College. (Length: 14:12)
