Philosophy of Teaching

My teaching philosophy is simple:  High touch over high-tech.  I try to make difficult topics easy to understand by placing them in historical or political economy context.  I tend to avoid jumping on the bandwagon of the latest trends in teaching technology.  Rather, like a seasoned football coach, I believe in the basic premise of moving the ball down the field with a solid traditional ground game – meaning I want the students to understand important core principles and perspectives first before moving on to more advanced material.  I convey these important ideas using simple time-honored teaching techniques.

Office Hours

10:00 am to noon and 2:00 to 3:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, and by appointment.  Miscellaneous meetings may take me away from the office on an unpredictable schedule.  Please e-mail me to schedule an appointment if I’m not immediately available in my office.
