- Bio
Dr. Joseph G. Weber serves as faculty in the Doctor of Medical Science program, drawing on more than a decade of leadership in physician assistant education and an earlier career in technology and business. He spent his first career as a computer engineer and consultant, managing global technology teams and multi-million dollar budgets at Fortune 500 companies, earning an MBA from Case Western Reserve University, and conducting early research on artificial intelligence in 1989. While consulting at the Cleveland Clinic in mid-career, a long-dormant interest in medicine reawakened. He earned his Master of Physician Assistant Sciences from Gannon University in 2009, graduating at the top of his class with Pi Alpha honors, followed by a Doctor of Health Sciences in Global Health from A.T. Still University in 2014.
Dr. Weber's most enduring contributions have been as a builder of programs. In 2011, he became founding program director of the PA Sciences program at Lake Erie College, developing the curriculum, securing ARC-PA accreditation, designing the facilities, and establishing the clinical partnerships that carried the program forward. Students later named their PA society in his honor, and the Board of Trustees recognized him with its Award of Commendation. In 2016, he repeated the work at Presbyterian College, founding a second PA program from inception and serving as Department Chair and tenured Full Professor, while helping establish the College's School of Health Professions. Hundreds of practicing PAs now carry the imprint of these programs.
Dr. Weber has also served as Interim Program Director at Ursuline College and as faculty at Lock Haven, North Greenville, and Lakeland Community College, where he was named Teacher of the Year. Since 2019, he has been Adjunct Associate Professor in A.T. Still University's Doctor of Medical Science program, teaching research methods, health economics, and the capstone series, and has received three ATSU Golden Apple Adjunct Faculty Teaching Awards. He has served as Professor and Director of Program Assessment in Franklin Pierce University's Texas Hybrid PA Program, and as an independent consultant has guided multiple programs through ARC-PA accreditation and curriculum development.
Drawing on his technology background, Dr. Weber has emerged as a thought leader on the integration of artificial intelligence into PA education, training faculty on AI applications for course preparation, examination development, and accreditation self-studies. His scholarly work includes publications on simulation-based medical education and on intracranial complications of sinusitis in children. He has served the profession on the South Carolina PAA Diversity Committee and several nonprofit boards, was nominated by his students for the 2021 AAPA PA of the Year Award, and has been inducted into the Lakeland Community College Alumni Hall of Fame.
Dr. Weber is a senior ordained college and hospital lay chaplain and a C.S. Lewis Fellow in Christian Apologetics. He holds a black belt in karate and certifications as an ACE Senior Fitness Specialist and Brain Health Trainer. He lives on fifteen acres in upstate South Carolina with his wife Jennifer and their goldendoodle Gracie, a therapy dog in training.
