SC

Student Comments

Below are comments from Southwestern students who have made the wise decision to major in chemistry or biochemistry.

Alicia Ong, Biochemistry Major

The one-on-one interaction with my chemistry professors at Southwestern College allows for greater depth of learning and appreciation for the chemical basis of life. The professors are dedicated to seeing you succeed in whatever field you are pursuing; they are always willing to spend time in and out of the classroom to clarify questions and provide advice.

Kyle Luttgeharm, Biochemistry Major
(Kyle is now a research scientist after his obtaining his PhD from the University of Nebraska.)
The biochemistry program at SC thoroughly prepares you for success. The professors at SC spend as much time as you need to understand the topics presented and more importantly to learn how to think like a scientist. If you are willing to put in the effort, you will graduate with a very competitive resume that will put you in the top tier biochemistry graduates in the state.

Dani McCaulley, Biochemistry Major
(Dani is now an MD after graduating from the Oklahoma Univeristy College of Medicine)

If I had the chance to do it over I would definitely major in Biochemistry again. The program and professors helped me achieve my goals.

Eric Lind, Biochemistry Major
(Eric is an industrial chemist.)

Receiving a Biochemistry degree from Southwestern automatically gives you a jump start because of SC's high reputation. Also, there are many opportunities that present themselves while in the program, whether it be for summer internships or local jobs while still in school.

Pat Arveson, Biochemistry Major
(Pat is a chemist in the Denver area)

There are tons and tons of opportunities out there for someone with a chemistry degree. The focus on every individual student and the high quality of the teachers makes the SC chemistry program one of the best in Kansas.

Justin Dillner, Biochemistry Major
(Justin attended dental school at UMKC and practices in Hesston, KS.)

The professors want to see you succeed. If you are having any difficulty, they will take as much time as necessary to thoroughly explain the matter to make sure you grasp a full understanding. Southwestern College also has a state of the art science facility with modern equipment, such as NMR, IR, and HPLC to name a few.
