SC Bluegrass Night Live is August 26

The Southwestern College Student Foundation along with Walnut Valley Festival will present SC Bluegrass Night Live on Friday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m. There is no admission charge and the public is invited to attend, and bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on.

The event will be at the grove (also known as Lovers Lane) located behind the Deets Library on the Southwestern College campus.  There will be snow cones, lawn games, and a tie-dye station (SC students will receive a free shirt to tie dye; community members are invited to bring a shirt to tie-dye).  The Tom Page Trio will perform on the stage.  Their performance is sponsored by the Walnut Valley Festival. There will also be ticket giveaways for the 50th annual Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield during Sept. 14-18.

The Southwestern College theatre department will perform some music from the upcoming music theatre production, “Winfield, The Musical,” which will run Friday-Sunday, Sept. 9-11.

On October 23, 1971, The Walnut Valley Folk Festival was born on Southwestern’s campus. The Cultural Arts Board and Student Activities Association at the time sponsored the festival. With afternoon workshops, concerts, and a fantastic display of flat-pickin’, the campus gathering provided roots for what would become the internationally-known Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival, which will celebrate its 50th year in September.
