SC Social Science Academic Showcase

Jacob Goodson, professor of philosophy and chair of the social science division at Southwestern College, invites the community along with faculty, staff, and students to the Social Science Academic Showcase on Friday, May 1, from 11 a.m., to noon in Mossman Hall room 101.  There is no admission charge.

The showcase will feature four presentations:

  • Christopher Harm—“War as a Mirror: What 3,000 Years of Conflict Reveal About Us”
  • Derek Ponce-Gonzalez, Abegale Denly, and Austin Fairbanks—“Screen Time and How It Influences the Mental Health of Undergraduate Students”
  • Emma Willesden—“The Effect of Biopsychological Models on Mock Juror Perceptions of Defendants with Co-Occurring Disorders”
  • Christopher Collier-Surly—“Breaking the Cycle: Understanding Addiction and Its Family Impact”

“Students in the social sciences study and think about difficult subject matters such as addiction, criminality, trauma, violence, and warfare,” Goodson says.  “The 2025-2026 Social Science Academic Showcase provides the campus and community with an opportunity to see how our students are thinking about these challenging subject matters.”
