Deets Library to Host ‘An Evening with Larry Hatteberg” on March 10
Deets Library, on the campus of Southwestern College, in partnership with the Winfield Public Library, will host “An Evening with Larry Hatteberg” on Tuesday, March 10, at 6 p.m. Seating is limited for the event.
According to Deets Library director Emily Hedges, guests at the evening ticketed event will enjoy a buffet dinner and the opportunity to engage directly with Hatteberg through a Q&A session, making this a memorable occasion to connect with local history through firsthand storytelling.
Hatteberg will share his vivid recollections of a historic moment in Winfield’s history — the visit of former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt to Winfield on May 4, 1962 to speak at a Model United Nations event hosted by Southwestern College, an occasion still remembered by many in the community.
Hatteberg is a Winfield native, longtime journalist, and beloved Kansas storyteller. He spent more than four decades as an award-winning television journalist and anchor at KAKE-TV in Wichita, where he became known for his thoughtful reporting, quiet presence, and deep respect for the communities he covered. Since retiring from broadcast news, Hatteberg has continued to share stories through writing and public speaking, including several books that reflect on faith, vocation, aging, and the moments that shape a life.
Tickets for “An Evening with Larry Hatteberg” are $25 for SC alumni and $30 for the general public. For tickets, email alumni@ sckans.edu, online at www.sckans.edu/alumni, or call Director of Alumni Engagement, Ashlee Kill, at (620) 229-6155.
