WNH Simulation Center
William Newton Hospital Simulation Center
The William Newton Hospital Simulation Center is a state-of-the-art learning environment that brings clinical education to life for nursing students and healthcare professionals. Located in the Winfield Healthcare Center, this collaborative space is more than just a classroom—it’s a hands-on clinical experience designed to strengthen confidence, critical thinking, and clinical judgment before stepping into real patient care settings.
Developed through a collaborative partnership between William Newton Hospital, Southwestern College, and local educational institutions, the Simulation Center offers a high-tech, low-risk environment where students can develop and refine their skills across a variety of realistic healthcare scenarios. From routine checkups to high-stakes emergencies, learners are immersed in lifelike patient interactions using advanced simulation mannequins, real hospital equipment, and video recording technology to support debriefing and feedback.
Key features of the collaborative education model at the Simulation Center include:
High-fidelity simulation rooms, including intensive care, obstetrics, medical-surgical, and pediatric care environments. These rooms feature advanced patient simulators—life-sized mannequins capable of realistic responses such as breathing, talking, heart and lung sounds, bleeding, and even childbirth. These high-tech mannequins are designed to closely replicate human physiology and clinical responses, allowing students to practice complex decision-making in a safe, controlled setting.
Debriefing room that fosters reflection and learning, equipped with audio-visual feeds for instructors to review student performance and guide post-simulation discussion.
Medication dispensing area that simulates real-world pharmaceutical protocols and enhances medication safety training.
Control room for faculty and facilitators to manage scenarios, monitor learner performance, and provide real-time feedback.
The Simulation Center plays a critical role in bridging the gap between theory and practice. Whether preparing for a first clinical rotation or enhancing post-licensure skills, the center provides students with the opportunity to learn from mistakes, build competence, and grow in confidence in a controlled and supportive environment.
At Southwestern College, we believe that exceptional nurses are made through experience, empathy, and education. The Simulation Center brings that vision to life by ensuring our Southwestern nursing students are not only ready for the future of healthcare—they are leading it.
