SC Baseball to Honor Cody Treatch

On Saturday, March 21, the Southwestern College baseball team will retire the #38, in honor of Cody Treatch, a Southwestern graduate who passed away on Aug. 23.

Treatch, a Rural Metro Fire cadet in the Tucson, Ariz., area, was hospitalized due to heat/dehydration-related injury. Despite medical efforts, Treatch did not recover.

“Cody was a former player here, three-year pitcher, died unfortunately as a fireman down in Arizona,” says head coach Mark Carvalho.  “He got married in January, died in August, and had a baby and so just a really sad situation.  His family is all coming for that day, so it is going to be a special day.”

The baseball team is honoring Treatch’s memory by wearing the #38 on their baseball caps this season.

The day will also mark the inaugural Builder Baseball Alumni Day.  All SC baseball alumni are invited to attend and be recognized.  Southwestern College restarted its baseball program in 2018.

“It’s our first alumni day, the program is only eight years old, so I guess the oldest alums are like 30 years old,” Carvalho says.  “So, on March 21, we celebrate our first-ever Alumni Baseball Day and honor the life and legacy of Cody Treatch, who gave his all — on the field and in service as a firefighter. His #38 jersey will be honored on this special day and his spirit will live in every Builder-past, present and in the future.”

More information about Alumni Day will be released at a later date.
