Diversity Council
Mission
The mission of the Diversity Council is to promote policies, programs, and practices that help create and sustain a positive, supportive and safe campus climate for all members of the college community by fostering greater understanding and appreciation of the value of diversity.
Goals
- Examine existing formal and informal structures that may inhibit Southwestern College from being more inclusive and recommend changes that foster greater inclusion.
- Initiate policies /programs to enrich awareness of and respect for diversity at Southwestern College.
- Encourage and support student-directed projects, events, and activities to honor and celebrate the diversity of the Southwestern College student population.
Chair
The presiding chairperson will be appointed by the college president.
Meetings
The council will meet monthly throughout the academic year.
Council Members
Members include faculty, staff, administrators, and students who are appointed by the president for a two-year term of service. Student members are recommended by the Student Life staff. Members are responsible to attend monthly meetings, contribute to programs and initiatives, and demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity.
