Educational Philosophy
Before coming to Southwestern, I was a physics instructor at a large research institution. Introductory courses typically contained 200-250 students. My ability to have consistent contact with individual students was severely limited. In fact, I never even met many of the students in my classes there. In contrast, the academic enviroment and small class size at Southwestern encourage consistent, meaningful interactions between faculty and students. In fact, I like teaching at Southwestern primarily because the small class sizes allow me to interact with my students, both inside and outside of class, at a level that is incomprehensible at large research institutions.
