All hours taken by the student while they are in China will be awarded by Southwestern College. This eliminates the task of determining equivalent credit and transferring hours taken in China back to SC. Students will enroll in 12 hours of SC credit for the fall semester of 2013 using Self-Service in the same way they have selected classes in the past. The student does not have to contact the school in China.
Financial aid will be available for qualified students. Students who participate in the program will lose their activity grant and 40% of their remaining institutional aid. However, students won’t have to pay for Southwestern room and board. The net result is that for between $2,200 and $1,700 above what they would have spent if they had stayed on campus, the student will get a roundtrip airplane ticket to China, international travel and living experience, and improved marketability after graduation. In addition, the student will have the opportunity to learn Mandarin Chinese, learn firsthand about another culture, and to make new friends.
