Overview

The Southwestern College Department of Mathematics is a learning community dedicated to:

  • Providing a quality undergraduate education in Mathematics and Mathematics Education, preparing students for careers in both education and industry.

  • Meeting the educational needs of students majoring in other academic disciplines by providing introductory mathematics and statistics courses.


Here are some careers that will be open to you after obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics.

Education - You can be certified as a high school math teacher or continue your education to teach mathematics at the college and university level.

Business and Industry
- You can continue your studies at the graduate level in areas such as statistics, bio-statistics, applied math, computer science or actuarial studies for jobs in business, industry or government.

Law - Students with a math background have a good acceptance rate into law school programs.

Economics - Graduate programs in economics appreciate students with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. Many economists have undergraduate degrees in mathematics.

Engineering
– If you combine your mathematics degree with additional coursework in Physics, you could complete an Engineering degree in as little as one year.

Computer Science - An area that is well suited for graduate work for students who have completed an undergraduate degree in mathematics.

You may acquire a dual major degree from Southwestern College without extra course hours to open two horizons for your future.
