Faculty Positions in Physician Assistant Studies

The Principal Faculty member works collaboratively with the Program Director, Director of Didactic Education, Medical Director, and other principal faculty and staff to plan, develop, and oversee the educational experience for students in accordance with ARC-PA Standards. 

Reporting to the Founding Director of the Physician Assistant Studies Program, this is a 12-month, full-time faculty position. Start day is May 1, 2025.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a course director and content area instructor in appropriate areas of clinical and didactic curriculum.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of syllabi and instructional objectives for clinical and didactic courses.
  • Evaluate student performance, academically counsel students and assure the availability of remedial instruction.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director, Director of Didactic Education, Medical Director, Program Manager, and other faculty and staff members to oversee the development and implementation of the program's didactic and clinical curriculum in accordance with ARC-PA accreditation standards.
  • In conjunction with all Program faculty and staff, assist with identifying and securing sites for supervised clinical practice experiences (SCPEs) in sufficient numbers to meet the Program's needs.
  • Participate in recruitment, selection, and admission of applicants to the program.
  • Assist in coordinating, reviewing, and revising academic policies and procedures.
  • Propose, implement, and evaluate curricular changes and revisions as appropriate based on ongoing, continuous program assessment to ensure program outcomes are achieved and ARC- PA standards are fulfilled.
  • Ensure appropriate advising and mentoring of students.
  • Assist the program director with continuous program review and evaluation, curriculum revision, and evaluation of course syllabi and lesson plans for the didactic and clinical curriculum.
  • Contribute to review, revision, and implementation of the PA Program's mission statement, goals, and competencies.
  • Maintain clinical competency and knowledge of current best practices within the profession.

Education and Experience:

  • Master's level Physician Assistant/Associate with an appropriate master's degree or higher from an ARC-PA accredited program
  • Current NCCPA certification
  • Possess a current (or eligible to hold and maintain), valid, unrestricted and unqualified license to practice as a physician assistant
  • Minimum of three years of full-time clinical experience
  • Experience in educational settings preferred

Controller       

Reports To:  Vice President of Finance / Chief Financial Officer

Job Summary
Directs, coordinates, and oversees the institution's various financial and accounting operations, including audit preparation. Compiles all monthly and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and policies. Oversees the operations of unrestricted accounting, finance systems management, restricted accounting, working capital investments, and accounts receivable.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of the accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger functions. Maintain the college’s general ledger and financial transaction recording and reporting system.
  • Reconcile and post all payroll activity to the general ledger.
  • Reconcile and post all cash receipts to the general ledger.
  • Perform all federal funding draws and reconcile financial aid reports to the general ledger.
  • Compile all monthly and annual financial statements in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Create, maintain, and provide access to budget manager monitoring reports.
  • Maintain the fixed asset and depreciation schedule.
  • Oversee preparation and execution of internal and external audits and the preparation of audit reports.
  • Establish College financial policies and transactional standards, ensuring consistency with the College’s mission and strategic plans, state and federal fiscal management laws and regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles and standards.
  • Through the Vice President of Finance/CFO, work with the Board of Trustees on the identification and resolution of strategic financial issues with current or potential impact on the College.
  • Train employees new to Dynamics GP on fundamentals of use.
  • Oversee major system development projects that impact financial reporting.
  • Direct insurance and risk management issues across campus including renewals and claims.
  • Oversee the operations of the copy and mail center.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Perform all duties with the strictest of confidence.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting, or bachelor’s degree in a related field with a minimum 5 years of experience that can be demonstrated to be applicable to the duties listed above, as well as a minimum of 5 years in a supervisory role.
  • Ability to learn institutional policies and procedures and the regulatory environment within which they operate.
  • Ability to interact with students, parents, vendors, and co-workers in a professional manner and communicate effectively and timely, both verbally and in writing
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively with various departments within the institution.
  • Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Excel and Word.

Residence Hall Director                                                                      

This part-time, live-in position carries responsibility for administering a comprehensive Residence Life program in an upperclassmen hall of approximately 50 residents and supports a residential community of approximately 450 residents.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Student Development:

  • Promote an atmosphere conducive to the academic pursuits and personal development of students.
  • Supervise Resident Assistants in coordinating hall programming that meets educational objectives.
  • Engage with a diverse student body by regularly dining in the cafeteria and attending student-centered activities.

Safety:

  • Promote and enforce a safe environment within the residence hall.
  • Enforce Southwestern College policies and regulations, as well as advise, discipline, and counsel individual students, making referrals when necessary.
  • Act as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), reporting Clery Act crime allegations disclosed to them to designated officials.

Administrative Duties:

  • Complete Resident Director monthly reports.
  • Maintain occupancy reports, room inventory paperwork, and room keys.
  • Manage the hall’s programming budget.
  • Manage student conduct case files and coordinate conduct hearings for policy violations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Training and Meetings:

  • Assist with fall and spring Resident Assistant Training.
  • Conduct a bi-weekly staff meeting with Resident Assistant staff, and regularly schedule one-on-one meetings with the Resident Assistants.
  • Attend/assist with monthly Resident Director/Apartment Manager staff meetings and monthly all-staff in-services.

Duty:

  • Apartment Managers and Resident Directors share weekly on-call rotations, which occur about every two to three months for each staff member.  On-call responsibilities include responding to phone calls, emergency situations, and weekend rounds in the residence halls.
  • Coordinate Resident Assistant duty nights and weekends in the residence hall.

Required Qualifications & Special Skills:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Leadership, supervision, and interpersonal skills relating to people in general, particularly young adults
  • Preference will be given to applicants with prior residence life and residence life leadership experience, and to those applicants who possess a working knowledge of student development.

Physical Demands: 

  • Essential functions of this position regularly require sitting, standing, walking, lifting, manual dexterity, ability to communicate.

Work Environment / Environmental Condition:

  • Work includes nights and weekends.
  • The individual in this position is required to reside on campus.

Compensation Package:
$7.89/hr, 18 hours a week for an approximate total of $140/wk or $6,000 annually for 10 months (July – May), $700 per semester in meal plan declining balance, benefits, retirement plan, and a 2-3 bedroom, 2 bath apartment that includes kitchen (refrigerator and electric range) cable, internet, utilities, and access to the complimentary laundry facilities.

Lead Teacher - SC Learning Center 

The person selected for this position will be responsible for the care and supervision of the preschool students and/or school-age students in the program.  He/she is directly responsible for working closely with other SCLC staff to ensure that continuity of care is maintained throughout the student’s entire day at the center.  This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a pay rate of $18.00/hour. 

Qualifications
The person selected for this position must be at least 18 years of age and have a strong desire to work with children.  This person must have a warm, nurturing, and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, be able to relate well with children and be willing to fulfill his/her responsibilities in accordance with the SCLC’s philosophy.  Because childcare requires a team approach, this person must have a mature attitude that allows him/her to communicate effectively, problem-solve, and anticipate the needs of his/her fellow workers.  An educational background in early childhood is required.

Responsibilities

The lead teacher is responsible for:

  • Being the communications liaison between the Center and the parents.  All pertinent information about the Center should be relayed through the lead teacher and /or directly through the Director.
  • Implementing the preschool schedule.
  • Ensuring that the assistant teachers are kept informed on a daily basis of any changes in the schedule.
  • Reporting daily events, changes in schedule, preschooler’s health, eating, and sleeping habits to the assistants so that continuity of care is maintained.
  • Completion of daily notes during the course of his/her shift.  This includes writing a general note about the child’s day in their notebook.
  • Completion of weekly plans.
  • Completion of weekly anecdotal records.
  • Arranging and planning for an environment that best meets the individual student’s developmental needs.
  • Directly overseeing assistant teachers.  Your role in the classroom is to act as a role model to assistants, to interject and guide them.  When inappropriate behavior may cause immediate harm, report to the Director inappropriate behaviors or general observations made about the assistant.  Your input is a vital part of staff evaluation.
  • Completion of individual developmental assessments and checklists.
  • Holding Parent Conferences at least every six months.  These should be held in conjunction with the completion of the assessment forms.  These conferences are established so that you and the parents can meet together to establish goals for their children.
  • Contributing equally in the housekeeping tasks of the classroom.
  • Being a competent member of the preschool teaching team.  This entails maintaining open communication between fellow team members, contributing equally in daily routine tasks, being aware of the overall needs of the preschool program, and coming to the aid of others as needed.
  • Attending all staff meetings, parent meetings, and other mandatory or required in-services.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of children, parents, and fellow staff members.
  • Dressing appropriately in accordance with the Center’s established dress code policy.
  • Maintaining professional attitude and loyalty to the school at all times.
  • Lastly, you are responsible for knowing the policies of the program in regard to:
    a. communicable disease and exclusion of sick children
    b. first aid and medical emergency
    c. fire evacuation
    d. tornado and severe weather evacuation

Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher degree in early childhood, child development, or a related discipline; or
  • Technical certificate or diploma in early childhood; or
  • Three semester hours of academic study or equivalent training in early childhood, child development AND three months experience in early childhood education providing direct care; or 
  • Six months experience in early childhood education providing direct care and supervision to children

Financial Aid Counselor/Assistant Director Financial Aid

Major Functions:
The Winfield-based financial aid counselor is one of four positions in charge of student financial aid at Southwestern College.   Working as part of the Financial Aid Team, this position is responsible for ensuring seamless, consistent service from the point of inquiry through enrollment and retention of Southwestern students both residential and online.  This includes planning, directing, implementing and monitoring the timely processing of financial aid in accordance with federal and/or state regulations and institutional policy as well as conducting outreach efforts to encourage completion of financial aid, face-to-face counseling, and financial literacy education.  Each counselor on the financial aid team has a primary area of responsibility and expertise in addition to their basic responsibilities. There is an opportunity for advanced professional placement based on demonstrated evidence of previous financial aid experience.  

Essential Functions

Customer Service:  

  • Participate in outreach efforts to encourage the completion of financial aid files.
  • Counsel students and parents on financial aid opportunities.
  • Be sensitive to and manage security and confidentiality issues and situations.
  • Coordinate with student accounts to assist in resolving financial issues.
  • Conduct outreach seminars/information sessions for students and families regarding the financial aid process, programs, and financial literacy especially as it relates to debt management.

Financial Aid Area of Expertise:

  • Comprehension of the entire financial aid process from application to fund delivery.
  • Provide financial aid processing support as needed to assist financial aid team.
  • Coordinate, manage, and monitor a minimum of two federal fund programs according to federal regulation.
  • Monitor student eligibility for federal student aid.

Job Specifications

Full-time, salary position.  Bachelor degree required.  Emphasis in business or related field or demonstrated direct financial aid experience preferred.  Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills required for sensitive customer service duties.  Computer (esp. Microsoft Office applications) and organizational skills required with an emphasis on being able to prioritize and manage tasks for completion while at the same time effectively handling customer needs.  The qualified person must be able to resolve complex regulatory issues using subjective decision-making skills.

SCLC Pre-K Director of Teaching and Learning

Reports to: SC Education Division Chair

Position Summary:
The SCLC provides pre-school services to 3- and 4-year-old children, along with a K-4th grade after-school program. The SCLC Pre-K Director of Teaching and Learning is responsible for managing all instructional and assessment aspects of the Southwestern College Learning Center (SCLC). The SCLC Pre-K Director of Teaching and Learning is responsible for curriculum development, weekly instructional planning, and mentoring, modeling for and working with student workers to develop their teaching and engagement with children while at the Center.

The SCLC Pre-K Director of Teaching and Learning, in collaboration with the SCLC Director of Operations, provides supervisory oversight of the SCLC. The SCLC Pre-K Director of Teaching and Learning provides leadership, management, and regulatory oversight of the Center necessary to ensure compliance with institutional, federal and state, and accrediting requirements and operating efficiency.

Regulatory:

  • Ensures SCLC adherence to institutional personnel and program policies and practices.
  • Ensures program compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations covering equal opportunity employment
  • Ensures compliance with KDHE childcare facility licensure regulations, including appropriate and accurate recordkeeping, signage, training, facilities, and other regulations as required.
  • Ensures adherence to NAEYC accreditation standards.

Operations:

  • Collaborates with SCLC Director of Operations to ensure the SCLC operates with efficiency and provides safe, appropriate, and meaningful programming for enrolled children.
  • Collaborates with SC Education Division Chair to develop and establish appropriate operational structures.
  • Collaborates with SC CFO and VP of Human Resources to ensure compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
  • Acts as a resource person for local, state, and federal programs.
  • Writes articles and assists in the development of SCLC brochures and news releases.

Supervisory:

  • Provides care and instruction for children enrolled in the preschool and afterschool programs.
  • Makes recommendations for hiring and directly supervises SC student workers assigned to work at the SCLC.
  • Collaborates with the SC Education Division Chair to develop in-service training programs for the staff as required by KDHE and NAEYC.
  • Manages time and schedule flexibility to maximize teacher schedules and child-learning outcomes.

Teaching and Learning:

  • Provides organized, age-appropriate individual and/or group learning activities for all children attending SCLC.
  • Responsible for creating weekly instructional materials. 
  • Analyze student assessment data to guide curricular and instructional decisions.
  • Provide student workers with resources related to instruction, curriculum, and assessment.
  • Model effective instructional and classroom management strategies.
  • Model, support, and assist student workers when they are engaged in instructional activities. Provide encouragement and emotional support to SC students assigned to work at the SCLC.
  • Provide support for student workers with classroom motivation and management strategies.
  • Possess understanding of when to contact administrators regarding issues of safety and/or ethics involving enrolled children and/or teachers working at SCLC.
  • Attend KDHE early childhood training and other professional development opportunities need to maintain credentials.

Public Relations:

  • Communicates professionally with parents and families of enrolled children and representatives from agencies associated with the SCLC.
  • Develop an atmosphere of support for the program within the community and geographic program area.
  • Acts as a resource with community agencies and organizations as needed to promote SCLC and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Acts as a resource person for local, state, and federal programs.
  • Makes presentations on behalf of the SCLC, writes articles, and assists in the development of SCLC brochures and news releases.

Must be 18 years of age or older.  

A masters or bachelors degree in early childhood education preferred, successful experience as an early childhood teacher in a licensed preschool or public education facility, successful experience supervising support staff and teaching assistants.  Preferred: knowledge of federal, state, and local childcare regulations, knowledge of NAEYC accreditation expectations.

Minimum requirements include a bachelors degree + 12 hours of academic study or equivalent training in child development, early childhood education, curriculum resources, nutrition, child guidance, parent education, supervised practicum, and administration of early childhood programs. Teaching experience in licensed early childhood centers or preschools preferred.

Performance Facilities and Technical Director/Manager

The Southwestern College Performing Arts Facility was redesigned in 2011 with updated lighting and sound equipment. This facility is used for local, regional, and national speaking and performance events. The Performing Arts Division vision statement guides the faculty and staff in the curricular and co-curricular offerings.  The Division of Performing Arts nurtures intellectual development, aesthetic sensibility, and creativity through stimulating classroom and performance experiences to prepare students as professionals and advocates who cultivate the arts. 

Position serves under the direction of the Southwestern College Director of Theatre and coordinates events with the Southwestern College Facilities Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Richardson Performing Arts Center, Messenger Recital Hall, and the Helen Graham Little Theatre.  Including but not limited to: physical space oversight, equipment management, and maintenance for both in-house and external (community) activities scheduled in these areas.
  • At the discretion of the Director of Theatre, oversee the general upkeep and maintenance of the Tomari Technical Center as needed per production. This may include oversight of scenery and properties for theatre performances, maintaining a usable, working inventory of props, scenery, tools and the equipment storage space in Tomari, as well as a running inventory of available building materials including lumber, hardware, paint, etc.
  • Oversee compliance with safety standards and policies of anyone using the performance spaces. Assist with training of student personnel on safety practices and procedures and use of shop equipment.
  • Maintain compliance with federal and school policies regarding schedule and time in performance spaces.
  • At the discretion of the Director of Theatre, mentor and assist student workers assigned to Tomari Technical Center, and students assigned to sound, lighting, props, and scenery technical positions and/or work.
  • Establish and maintain regular, published office and shop hours, and communicate with the Director of Theatre when published hours need to be adjusted due to performance schedules.
  • Assist the Director of Theatre in departmental productions with the following:
    • Development and construction of scenery and props
    • Development of and hanging and focusing light plot.
    • Preparation, distribution, and maintenance of sound requirements.
  • Assist the Director of Theatre as support staff during tech week and public performances.
  • Assist the Director of Theatre with planning and execution of tour show demands.
  • Assist with transport, load-in and load-out of scenery, costumes, and equipment needed to be moved from the Tomari Technical Center to on-campus performance spaces and touring shows.

Qualifications

  • A commitment to performance excellence.
  • A Master’s degree or a Bachelor’s degree with equivalent technical theatre-related professional experience is required.
  • Experience in performance facilities management.
  • Experience in technical theatre with specialization in lighting, sound, costumes, and properties for the stage.
  • A commitment to the work ethic that is needed for high-quality productions. This includes the ability to thrive in high-pressure and time-sensitive theater production environments and to embrace the workload of a production season that necessitates flexible hours- evenings and weekends. 
  • Strong commitment to collegiality and the ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds and facility needs.

Compensation and Benefits

  • The Technical Director position is a full-time (forty hours per week) position based on a $20 hourly wage.  (Approximately $41,600 per year)
  • This position is a “non-exempt” position.  When deemed necessary, due to facility demands and approved by the Director of Theatre, the TD will be eligible for overtime compensation.
  • This position is eligible for full-paid Health Benefits.

Associate Development Officer

Job Summary
The Associate Development Officer (ADO) is responsible for the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors supporting the Builder Fund as well as major gift prospects at the $10,000 + level.  As part of the major gifts team, the ADO will report to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement. The ADO will provide strategic assistance to the Advancement team, President, and senior members of the administration as an essential function of this position.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a portfolio of 120-150 planned and major gift prospects/donors with a goal to increase the number of major gifts.
  • Conduct at least 10-15 face-to-face visits with donors and prospects per month (extensive travel required).
  • Serve as a key member of the fundraising team and actively participate in developing strategies to achieve overall fundraising goals for financial support and alumni participation.
  • Work closely with members of the SC administration, faculty, and staff to guide the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donor relationships.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement for major and planned giving proposal approval and development of gift agreements.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement to prepare proposals and illustrations of life income and estate gift arrangements.
  • Work closely with colleagues in the Office of Marketing and Communications to increase awareness of major, planned, and leadership annual gifts through press releases and feature stories in the Southwesterner magazine, the College website, social media, and print publications.
  • ADO will maintain professional affiliations and continue to enhance his/her knowledge in the development and alumni relations field by keeping abreast of the latest information and trends in major gift fundraising, including deferred giving techniques, estate planning and tax laws.
  • Propose and develop regional events that are integrated with major gift efforts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2-3 years experience in development, sales, marketing, customer service, or relationship building related fields.
  • Manage multiple tasks, and be detail-oriented.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Be comfortable working in an environment where fundraising metrics play an essential role in annual performance evaluations.
  • Must be capable of working with sensitive information with complete confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of Southwestern College is valued.
  • Regional and national travel is required.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekend hours is required.
  • Ability to represent Institutional Advancement professionally.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and be insurable.

Baseball Graduate Assistant Coach

The Athletics Department at Southwestern College is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Graduate Assistant Coach for the Baseball program.

Position Description:
The primary duty for the position is assisting the Head Baseball Coach in daily and game operations and help with the strength and conditioning program throughout the fall, winter and spring. The graduate assistant will work mainly with hitters and infielders on a daily basis within the SC Baseball philosophy.

This position is responsible for assisting the head and assistant coach in all phases of the SC varsity and junior varsity baseball programs (coaching, committing to academic progress and success of the student-athletes, recruiting, coordination of fundraisers, camps and clinics). The successful applicant must be able to do the following:

  • Physically operate gameday  practices by throwing batting practice and hitting fungos
  • Know how to use baseball software programs and operate systems regarding pitching and hitting equipment
  • Be in charge of field duties and have the ability to set up and tear down practice and gameday equipment

Good character & communication skills, self-motivation, and leadership skills are essential. Graduate assistant coaches are expected to engage with a diverse student body by residing on campus, regularly dining in the cafeteria, and attending student-centered activities and events. Position compensated with graduate studies, housing, meal allowance, and coaching stipend.

Public Safety Officer (Full-Time/Part-Time)

Basic Function
To ensure the safety and security of all persons and property on the Southwestern College campus.

Perform the duties and responsibilities of this role at all times in a fashion that supports the College’s commitment to creating an inclusive college of academic excellence where a variety of people and perspectives are welcome, and to providing an environment where people from all races, ethnicities, national origins, genders, sexual orientations and backgrounds may succeed.

Shifts will vary. Successful candidate will be available for all shifts, including many nights and weekends. Hourly rate $10.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understands and follows all campus security, safety and emergency procedures.
  • Maintains familiarity and positive working relationships with all members of the campus community.
  • Works closely with Student Affairs (Dean of Students, Assistant/Associate Dean, Hall Directors, Resident Assistants) to respond to student incidents and emergencies.
  • Notifies Director of Safety & Security and Student Affairs administrators on emergency situations as needed.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with all emergency services to include police, fire and EMS.
  • On-scene liaison between the city/county emergency services.
  • Reviews, understands, and passes on any information pertinent to departmental daily operations via the General Information Shift Log.
  • Responds to all calls for service and emergencies (medical & fire), provides escorts, and responsible for the locking and unlocking of buildings in a timely manner. 
  • Provides regular foot patrols of the interior and exterior of campus buildings and monitors the campus grounds and roadways. Makes mobile patrols of the campus (ie: golf cart, security vehicle) as needed.
  • Responsible for the completion of all incident reports and/or any written information pertaining to events that occur during shift.
  • Monitors all parking areas and enforces traffic and parking regulations as needed.
  • Enforces Southwestern College rules and regulations.
  • Reports security, safety, health and fire hazard issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Participates in Safety and Security/Student Affairs training on procedure, protocol and response to incidents.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Director of  Safety and Security.

Minimum Qualifications
Position requires a high school diploma or GED. A valid driver’s license with a good driving record, and being able to pass a background check. Position requires excellent interpersonal, customer service and written and oral communication skills. Must be available to work a flexible schedule.

Preferred Qualifications
Preference given to those with a college degree in a related field. Experience in college or university campus security preferred.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates who also demonstrate success in recruiting, retaining, mentoring and / or actively engaging with under-represented and underserved populations both in the workplace and in the broader community.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be physically fit as work requires walking, climbing stairs and working in varying weather conditions, etc.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. unassisted
