Campus Life

The Southwestern College community was founded on tradition, and we are restless in our attempt to create a safe and supportive environment. We expect our students to learn by doing, so we provide opportunities that will get them going. From non-profit entrepreneurial opportunities and on-campus publications to worship outreach programs and service learning projects, we offer an educational and community experience that just can’t be beat.

CafeteriaYour on-campus meal choices cover all the bases. Choose from the Chef’s Table featuring traditional home-style entrées or Fresh Fusion featuring healthy, vegetarian and low fat items. The Culinary Expo/Grill offers freshly prepared specialty items and Trattoria features Italian pizza, sandwiches and pastas. Enjoy the soup & fresh salad station and an array of handcrafted desserts and beverages. In a hurry? Fresh & Go is a quick grab and go area for students that don’t have time to eat at the dining hall. Plus, a full beverage bar that takes up one entire wall of the cafeteria is available. Your meal plans are fairly flexible, so you can tell your folks you won't starve at SC.

In addition to the on-campus cafeteria — or "The Caf" as it is lovingly referred to by students — you can also dine at the Java Jinx, where you can order specialty sandwiches, wraps with a convenient “pick two” option, savory 7″ personal pizzas made to order, a variety of fresh salads, soups and smoothies.  If you are a coffee fan, then you must visit the Java Jinx where they brew Wild Horse Creek coffee every day as well as a number of other beverage options.

Studies have shown that students who spend at least their first two years living on campus receive better grades than those who commute. They also tend to finish their degrees in higher numbers than those living off campus. It's not just about having a place to sleep; living on campus is about community, friends, and learning about one another.

To assist SC students in living away from home and to enhance their academic success, all new students who are under the age of 20 and who have not reached junior status, or are not married, are required to live on campus unless they live with parents or legal guardians.

Most upper class students choose to remain on campus, but they may live either on or off campus after their second year if they are 20 years old AND a junior.

Fortunately, SC offers some of the best housing options around. Not only will you be connected to the campus computer network, you'll be connected to everything.

LibraryThe first college or university in the region to issue laptops to all entering new students, Southwestern is also the first to go wireless -- take your Surface Pro to virtually any area on campus (your study group or your room) and log on. You also can listen to many campus events live via the web.

Incoming students will receive a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 with the following specs:

Our Office of Safety and Security, which is open 24 hours a day, ensures that all Southwestern College students are safe. In the rare case of an emergency, our staff is on call. We know that there is no such thing as being danger free, but we pride ourselves on our ability to reduce risk and increase security on campus by regularly patrolling the campus, providing campus escorts, and responding to all requests for assistance. There shouldn’t be anything scary about college, and we make sure that nothing is. We provide a seamless transition for first-year students and we have a variety of services designed to make their college transition smooth and worry free.
